Solar industry unites behind Supply Chain Sustainability Initiative

Today, solar is growing exponentially, and according to the International Energy Agency (IEA), is expected to be the main electricity source in Europe by 2050, fostering green economic development across the continent. With growth, the impact that we can make in the value chain increases. Reinforcing a responsible, transparent, and sustainable solar supply chain is central to delivering this transition.

STS has joined forces with SolarPower Europe & Solar Energy UK and over 50 solar companies, from across the value chain, to create the Solar Stewardship Initiative. Together, we’re working to develop confidence in how, where, and by whom, solar products are manufactured.

Acting as technical expert on traceability of the solar supply chain in this Initiative, STS has also set up its own STS Sustainable Supply Chain Program, under which more than 55GW of production capacity has been assessed. This program enables us to provide a benchmark that developers can use to select their supplier-partners.
