Global PV module supply chains are shifting. New regulatory requirements in the US and regulations in the making in Europe have brought traceability requirements to the forefront of supplier qualification and selection processes. At the same time, putting in place a traceability system that tracks provenance of materials all the way up to raw materials is a challenging task for every manufacturer.
The findings we are observing during our assessments in the framework of the Sustainable Supply Chain Program, is that manufacturers are preparing to meet this new requirement. They are all at different stages in implementing a robust traceability management system, which is reflected in the assessment results.
We recommend that, in addition to audit scores and inspection results, the transparency and openness of the potential partner be taken into account during the selection process. Being open to share information and being ready to implement corrective action plan and improve processes is a solid foundation on which to build a long-term relationship with your supply chain partners.
